Özet:
The purpose of this study was to take a closer look and gather more data on the subject of cyberbullying from the perspective of mental health professionals. Cyberbullying is a problem for many people, especially children and adolescents. At the same time, adults experience cyberbullying as well. The subject of cyberbullying is relatively new and although a lot of research has been facilitated on this subject, there are still significant gaps in research data. This study attempted to help fill in some of those gaps by acquiring new data on the subject of cyberbullying. Specifically, the survey attempted to gather data regarding if and how mental health professionals assess their client's for instances of cyberbullying. This study also attempted to understand how prepared mental health professionals are in managing situations where their client's have been cyberbullied, how client's are impacted by cyberbullying experiences in terms of their mental health, as well as if professionals are aware of the training resources available to them. The survey results indicated that most clinicians do not assess their client's for instances of cyberbullying as a regular part of their assessment process (n=48, 48%) or treatment process (n=44, 44%). Most clinicians do not feel adequately prepared to work with client's that have cyberbullying experiences (n=54, 53.46%), most clinicians have not attended trainings on the topic of cyberbullying (n=86, 85.15%), and all clinicians have observed at least one form of psychological distress in clients that have had cyberbullying experiences (n=79, 100%). The results of this study indicate that the tested hypotheses were true. That is, mental health professionals do not regularly assess their clients for instances of cyberbullying, mental health professionals do not feel adequately prepared to help clients with cyberbullying issues, and last, mental health professionals are unaware of the training resources available to them on the subject of cyberbullying.
