Özet:
This study focuses on the literary and visual media production of black queer artists in Africa and the African diaspora. Jackie Kay's literary work Trumpet (1998), Zanele Muholi's photographs in Faces and Phases, 2006-14 (2014), Jabu C. Pereira's photograph Indigenous (2011), Dee Rees' film Pariah (2011), and Kortney Ziegler's film Still Black: A Portrait of Black Transmen (2009) insert themselves into a narrative of liberatory black struggle that has often ignored or discounted the experiences of black masculine lesbian women and black transgender men. Each work is aesthetically distinct yet linked to the others through a shared preoccupation with the visual politics of portraiture vis-a-vis literature, photography, and film. This research uses autoethnography to investigate the ways theses selected artists use Black/Afrikan/Quare/Trans* (In)visibility as a liberatory praxis to create black queer possibilities that create new times and new spaces.
