Özet:
The purpose of this qualitative research study was to explore how college and university faculty and adult learners think about hybrid instructional delivery as it compares to traditional face-to-face learning in terms of effective learning. Institutions of higher education continue to seek to create learning experiences that appeal to the growing adult learner segment while maintaining academic integrity and rigor. Consequently, the development of delivery formats that reduce face time between faculty and students are often called into question with respect to the effectiveness of the learning experience. Through a basic qualitative approach, the study implemented a semi structured interview process with 10 faculty and nine students about their perceptions and the factors that influence those perceptions. The resulting data was organized into thematic categories that helped to frame the overall results of the analysis and inform researcher conclusions. While it is often perceived that learning effectiveness may be impacted by the delivery format, the findings of this study suggest that students and faculty agree that the more prominent factors in determining effectiveness are the pedagogical approach to course design and the experience and commitment that faculty have to the alternative delivery approach. As this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge regarding distance learning efficacy, additional research is needed in the qualitative study of hybrid delivery formats in order to arrive at generalizable conclusions.
